Hatfield residents and veterans gathered to pay their respects to fallen troops at the launch of the Hatfield Poppy Appeal.

The launch took place on Saturday, October 22, in the Galleria and guests deputy mayor Lynne Sparks, Grant Shapps, Hatfield mayor Linda Mendez and members from South Hertfordshire Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club, attended.

Soprano singer Ione Chadwick, stepped in at the last minute and performed ‘God Save Our Queen’.

Scottish piper George MacGregor played after the one minute silence and everyone including Hatfield’s Army and Air Cadets joined in with the singing.

There were plenty of stalls and exhibits, including face painting and reptiles on show.
