The long battle to stop a massive waste incinerator from being built in Hatfield is at last conclusively over, the Welwyn Hatfield Times can reveal.

WIth its time-limit expiring today, waste firm Veolia has confirmed it will not launch a legal challenge to Secretary of State Greg Clark’s ruling against the project on the former school site.

A spokeswoman told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “Following a legal review of the decision made by the Secretary of State in July to refuse planning permission for the New Barnfield Recycling and Energy Recovery Facility, and after consideration by our Board, Veolia will not seek to further challenge that refusal.”For full story and reaction, see next week’s Welwyn Hatfield Times, in shops from Wednesday.
