UNIVERSITY students may have gone home for the summer - but more than 2,000 potential new ones are set to descend on Hatfield.

The University of Hertfordshire is organising a warm welcome for Saturday when it hosts an open day.

And staff will be keen to show off what's on offer on campus - especially after The Independent's Complete University Guide revealed the Hatfield university was the only one in the country that spent more on student facilities than Oxford and Cambridge.

New developments include Graduate Futures, a unique network offering employment and career development support to its graduates throughout their lifetime.

There is also the £9m film, music and media building and the health research building, home to the latest state-of-the-art technology and training facilities.

The open day will incorporate campus tours, subject talks and student finance advice

More than 40 student 'ambassadors' will also be on hand to answer questions and share experiences.

Ross Renton, head of UK recruitment and access said: "Our aim is for our visitors to leave with a real sense of what type of university we are.

"The aim of these open days is for our visitors to learn firsthand about the experience on offer to them."

The event is open to potential students of all ages, their families and friends.
