The University of Hertfordshire and Hertfordshire Students' Union teamed up with the local community to pick up litter.

The students and residents recently collected approximately 30 bags of litter from around the Salisbury Village estate in Hatfield, including Albatross Way, Mosquito Way and Aviation Avenue.

The event was attended by Welwyn Hatfield Mayor and local resident Lynne Sparks, local councillors Howard Morgan and Duncan Bell, as well as staff and student volunteers from the university and the student union.

There were also volunteers from the local fire service and the university’s dedicated policing team.

Emma Lewis, Community Liaison and Support Officer at the University of Hertfordshire, said: “We work very hard to encourage students and the wider community to take responsibility to pick up litter.

“We are fortunate that so many local residents, businesses and services take pride in their environment and are willing to give up their time to help us spruce up the streets around Hatfield.”
