THE University of Hertfordshire's new multi-million pound entertainment complex has been refused a 24-hour licence to sell alcohol.

The verdict on the Forum venue, under construction on the College Lane campus in Hatfield, was made by a borough council licensing sub-committee.

But a decision on the actual hours it will be able to operate has been deferred until January after last Monday's meeting descended into farce.

In proposing alternative licensing arrangements, councillors actually ended up cutting the hours the student union (SU) currently operates.
