THE number of people on the dole in Welwyn Hatfield has fallen for the second consecutive month, after reaching a 15-year high in January.
Figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that 1,860 people claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance in June.
This compares to 1,937 in May, 2,039 in April and 2,010 in March.
January’s figure of 2,095 claimants was the highest since September 1995.
Across the UK as a whole, the number of people on the dole fell in June by 20,800 to 1.46 million. The total number of unemployed people in the country is 2.47 million, a drop of 34,000.
