UKIP has today (Friday) announced it is fielding a candidate in the race to become Herts’ first police and crime commissioner.

The news Marion Mason will stand was released on the same day as the deadline for candidates closed.

She will contest the election next month and will be pitted against Conservative, Labour and Lib Dem hopefuls.

She has a background in politics having formerly lead the Conservative Group on Stevenage Borough councillor before defecting to UKIP in 2009.

Ms Mason also stood in the 2010 general election for Stevenage and came fourth.
