Two teenagers were arrested after groups of youths brawled near a church in Welwyn Garden City.
A 14-year-old boy from Welwyn Garden City and a 17-year-old boy from Hatfield were arrested on suspicion of affray after a fight between youths broke out in the car park of Our Lady Queen of Apostles, in Woodhall Lane.
The clash was on Saturday at 10.20pm, and police said the groups knew each other. The pair who were arrested are currently on police bail while investigations continue.
Patrols have subsequently been stepped up in the area, and a dispersal notice enabling police to temporarily exclude people from the patch has been issued.
It is the latest of several incidents of antisocial behaviour near the Woodhall shops, and Sergeant Steve Hynes stressed that “this type of behaviour will not be tolerated”.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to reassure the local community that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated and we will take action against those responsible,” he said.
“I am appealing for anyone who saw the disturbance or has information about the incident to call Hertfordshire Constabulary’s non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference B1/16/3043.”
