TWO men were rescued after their cherry picker broke down 20ft in the air at a Hatfield shopping complex today (Wednesday).

Firefighters from WGC, Hatfield, and Watford were called to the Galleria in Comet Way at around 11.50am, after the men phoned for help.

An aerial ladder from Stevenage was also at the scene, but eventually the lift was brought down manually by firefighters.

Tim Stirling, managing director of the Galleria, said the men had been working on installing a new sign for popular 1950s-themed Italian restaurant Frankie & Benny’s, when the lift became jammed.

“It’s all finished now,” Mr Stirling said. “They weren’t stuck for very long. We were all in a meeting and didn’t even know it had happened until it was all over.”
