A MAN and a teenage girl were left with head injuries after a car hit a tree near Welham Green.

Paramedics and a doctor from the Hertfordshire Air Ambulance battled for more than an hour to treat a man who became trapped in the black Vauxhall Zafira yesterday (Tuesday) evening.

The crash happened at Swanland Road, Water End near Welham Green just before 7pm.

Ambulance crews from WGC and Hertford were dispatched to the scene as well as the Herts Air Ambulance.

Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson said: “On our arrival a man was found trapped in the wreckage of a car against a tree. Due to this, the Herts Air ambulance was called upon to assist in the treatment of the patient.”

He added: “The paramedics and doctor from the air ambulance worked closely with the fire service to treat, stabilise and immobilise the man before he was taken direct by land ambulance to the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead.

“A second casualty, a teenage girl was also taken by land ambulance to the Royal Free Hospital.”

A police spokeswoman said details of the crash were unclear and witnesses should call 0845 33 00 222.
