The scene of the blaze

FLAMES ripped through a house forcing two people to evacuate themselves from the building.

The blaze began in a ground floor garage full of household equipment and then quickly spread through the three-storey house in Goldings Crescent in Hatfield.

Three fire crews rushed to the inferno and had to blast a passage way through the flames to get to the heart of the blaze just after 5pm on Saturday.

After the fire was doused, investigators surveyed the scene with the use of a thermal camera and a fire dog before classing the cause as doubtful.

The garage was heavily damaged by the flames and much of the outside of the house was left blackened by the blaze.

Sub officer Steve Duncan told the WHT that his crew fought hard to extinguish the fire.

He said: "When we arrived the flames were licking the side of the house and were clearly coming out of the garage which was connected to a storage shed.

"We had a report that there were people in the building but they had got themselves out in time but the house was quite badly damaged.

"When we stopped it I could not find a reason for why the fire has started and decided it was doubtful.
