ROTARIANS from WGC have paid tribute to a long-serving member of their club, who has died after a freak accident outside a car repair garage yesterday (Tuesday).

Vic Lindsey, a former headteacher at the now defunct Howard School and Sir John Newsom School, both in WGC, died after being hit by his own blue Vauxhall Astra, as he tried to push the car around the entrance of Kwik-Fit in Bridge Road East, WGC.

It is understood the vehicle unexpectedly reversed, trapping Mr Lindsey between his car and a wall.

He was taken to the QE2 Hospital in WGC in a critical condition, and later died of his injuries.

Today (Wednesday) news of Mr Lindsey’s untimely death shook members of the WGC Rotary Club, where he had been a member for around two decades.

It is believed Mr Lindsey, from Attimore Close, WGC, was returning home from a Rotary meeting before his death.

Rotary secretary John Walton called Mr Lindsay an “extremely pleasant, funny and jovial guy”.

“I’ve been phoning members of Rotary this morning and everyone has been talking about all the things he did for so many people,” Mr Walton said.

“It was just little things, he was always there to help and he did help, in so many ways. It is a huge shock to everyone.”

Fellow Rotarian Dr Dennis Lewis, who had known Mr Lindsey for more than 20 years, said: “This is terrible news.

“Vic was one of the old school - he was a gentleman, thoroughly honest and reliable.

“I was privileged to have known him for well over 20 years, and I never heard him speak ill of anyone.

“It was he who nominated me for the WGC Rotary Club earlier this year, and we had many conversations about our town and the people in it.

“He was a gifted musician and had a dry sense of humour which I very much appreciated.

“He was a power for good in our town and I, for one, will miss him.

“Many many people will miss him - he is irreplaceable.”
