Archant

A van that was lugging a gigantic tree through Hatfield was seized by police.

Officers stopped the vehicle – with branches splaying out from all angles – in Comet Way at around 10.30am yesterday, before the driver was reported to the Criminal Justice Department.

BCH Road Policing tweeted a picture of the seizure, which sparked a flurry of puns on social media – with amused onlookers enquiring whether the “special branch” had been informed.

A Herts Police spokeswoman said that when a motorist is reported for a driving offence, the CJD decides on the most appropriate way to deal with the alleged offence.

There are usually four possible ways: no further action; the driver attends an educational course as an alternative to prosecution; a fixed penalty notice; or a court appearance.

BCH Road Policing tweeted: “We are hoping for a ‘tree’ month disqualification.”
