Council set to evict Hatfield travellers

Welwyn Hatfield Council is following legal procedures for the eviction of travellers who have taken over a Hatfield car park.

A council spokesman said: “We were notified yesterday evening (Monday 2 April) that an unauthorised encampment has arrived in Link Drive car park in Hatfield.

“Council officers have visited the site and confirmed the presence of 12 caravans and 12 vehicles.

“This land is owned by the borough council and welfare checks have been completed as required.

“We are following the legal procedures for eviction and have given this site priority for action.

“We are continuing to monitor the situation closely.”

A police spokesman added: “Police have received reports of travellers in Link Drive car park, Hatfield.

“Officers have attended the scene and are liaising with both the travellers and the local council in order to monitor the situation.”
