MOTORISTS are being warned to take care on the roads, with heavy snow predicted over the next few days.

Gritting crews from Hertfordshire Highways are already salting the county’s A and B roads, with weather forecasts predicting snowfall from today (Thursday) and over the weekend.

County councillor Stuart Pile, executive member for highways and transport, said: “Ice, frost and snow make for very difficult driving conditions so please take extra care and allow more time for journeys.

“Ice isn’t always visible on the road, so leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front, steer and brake very gently and reduce your overall speed. Take particular care if you are driving on minor roads that might not be part of our main gritting route.”

He added: “Over the coming days our gritting crews will be keeping a constant eye on the weather and, as well as normal gritting runs, will be ready to deal with snow.”
