Highways engineers have confirmed traffic lights at the busy South Mimms motorway junction are not working properly, but promised they will fix them as soon as they can.
After several drivers reported delays in the morning rush-hour today and yesterday, Highways England told the Welwyn Hatfield Times it was aware of a problem with the lights controlling the A1(M)/M25 junction.
A spokeswoman said: “We have identified a problem with the way the signals timing plan has been operating, particularly during the morning period.
“Engineers are continuing to monitor the site to assess traffic flows, and will be working to rectify this issue as soon as possible.”
Highways England has also warned drivers to be careful and patient in the foggy conditions, which are forecast to last until tomorrow morning’s rush hour.
