Govia Thameslink Railway, which runs the Great Northern service through Welwyn Garden City and Potters Bar, has performed poorly in quarterly statistics.

According to a statistical release from the Office of Rail and Road (ORR), Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) has performed worse than most other train services between October 1 and December 31, 2015.

For public performance measure, which indicates the percentage of trains that arrived at their final destination within five minutes of their scheduled arrival time, GTR scored 75.9 per cent.

This was the lowest score out of 23 different train operators, with c2c coming out on top and First Transpennine Express performing second worst with 79.8 per cent.

The report, which came out on Thursday, February 11, attributed the poor performance to on-going engineering works at London Bridge, as well as a number of major delay incidents.

The report also measured cancellations and significant lateness of trains. This included trains that were up to 30 minutes late at their final destination. GTR scored fifth worst out of the train operators, with 6.4 per cent of trains late or cancelled.

A spokesman for GTR said: “We know that the final quarter of last year was particularly difficult for our passengers with performance affected by a number of issues.

“Together with our partners Network Rail we are working hard to improve performance by reducing the delays within our control, however there is no quick fix for the constraints that the rebuilding of London Bridge has put on our network, which means any incident quickly results in a domino effect on other services.

“We will continue to do everything within our power to provide our passengers with a better service.”
