COMMUTERS in Hertfordshire faced long delays this morning (Wednesday) after an accident closed the M25.

The smash happened on the anti-clockwise carriageway between junctions 22 and 21a, for London Colney and St Albans, last night.

The Highways Agency said the road was shut to enable emergency roadworks and resurfacing to be carried out. It is not expected to be re-opened until noon.

The knock-on effect for commuters was disastrous. Tailbacks stretched past South Mimms and Potters Bar towards junction 25, for Enfield.

Surrounding roads around the Potters Bar and St Albans areas were also clogged up as motorists tried to find alternative routes.
