There are currently long delays for drivers heading away from Hatfield.
Drivers using the westbound A414 heading towards St Albans are faced with queues and delays of almost 20 minutes.
The tailbacks start at the roundabout at Junction 3 of the A1(M) in Hatfield.
Drivers are warned to avoid the area if possible.
