Drivers will not be able to travel south along the A1(M) for the next five nights, as repair works are carried out.
The southbound traffic, currently travelling through the northbound bore of the tunnel, will be diverted off the A1(M) from today (Monday) until and including Friday, August 20.
A Highways Agency spokeswoman said: “The work will take place each night between 10pm and 5am when traffic flows are lower, to reduce the impact on road users. Clearly signed diversions will be in place.
“Road users will be taken off the A1(M) southbound at junction 4 and diverted along the A1001, and then back on the A1(M) at junction 2.”
The work is part of the two-year scheme to improve the tunnel.
