There are delays on the trains this afternoon after a vehicle collided with a railway bridge in the Hitchin area.

Rail operator Govia Thameslink says the crash, and other faults, may cause delays of up to 20 minutes and cancellations on Great Northern services between Hitchin and Royston.

The line through Hitchin was running at a reduced speed due to safety reasons surrounding the crash but, following an inspection of the bridge by Network Rail at 12.14pm, it was deemed safe to run trains at normal speed once again.

Two faults have also occurred today - one which is continuing to cause delays at Royston and another where a train was removed from service due to a fault on the 09:55 Horsham to Peterborough train.

Both incidents have led to a backlog of trains in the area.
