Gritting lorries have been on Hertfordshire roads since well before dawn after overnight snow.
Hertfordshire Highways crews left their depots at 4am to make main roads safe for the morning rush hour.
Conditions were worst in the east and north of the county, and buses between Puckeridge and Bishops Stortford have been delayed by road accidents.
