Repairs are now finished to the tracks hit by storm St Jude, but rail users still face delays of up to 60 mins.

Emergency engineering work to repair damaged overhead power lines overran in the Welwyn Garden City area this morning (Tuesday).

Trains will now be running through Knebworth, Welwyn North, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield, Welham Green, Brookmans Park and Potters Bar.

A spokesman for rail operator First Capital Connect said: “All necessary repairs have now been made on all lines of the Great Northern route and they have been handed back to us by Network Rail.

“We would like to thank our passengers for their patience and advise them that services will continue to return to normal throughout the day, although we are still experiencing residual delays of up to 60 minutes and passengers should please check before they travel.”

Only a limited service has run on the Great Northern Route since the storm lashed Hertfordshire on Monday.

Phil Verster, Route Managing Director for Network Rail, said: “We apologise to passengers who have been inconvenienced this morning.

“I thank passengers for their patience and assure them we are doing everything possible to help the operators to return to timetable as quickly as possible.”
