Train operator First Capital Connect will continue running services after its franchise was extended.
FirstGroup has signed an agreement with the Department for Transport to operate the rail franchise for a further six months.
The agreement means the First Capital Connect (FCC) franchise, which operates services from and through Potters Bar, Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City, Welwyn North and Knebworth, will operate beyond its current planned end date of March 31 to September 14.
An FCC spokesman said: “The agreement secures continuity of rail services for passengers and retains the FCC’s experience as the delivery partner of the multi-billion pound Thameslink Programme already well underway on the network.
“During this six month period we will continue with our comprehensive fleet maintenance programme, as well as introducing service improvements for passengers.”
