THE Hatfield Tunnel was closed this morning (Thursday) after a car caught fire on the motorway.
The blue Vauxhall Astra’s engine caught alight on the northbound carriageway of the A1(M) at 11.25am.
The tunnel was shut in both directions, and traffic stopped from coming on at junction three, as smoke was blowing across the road.
Emergency services were called to the scene. The tunnel was re-opened just before noon.
No-one was injured.
