Commuters using the A1(M) this evening are being warned to expect gridlock traffic following a four-vehicle crash.
The northbound stretch between Junction 6 for Welwyn and Junction 7 for Stevenage has remained closed since 11.45am to enable emergency repairs to be completed after a large diesel spillage.
Highways England warned residents this afternoon: “The #A1M in #Hertfordshire remains CLOSED northbound between J6 & J7 for emergency resurfacing works following an earlier collision which resulted in a large diesel spillage.
“A signposted diversion is in place. Please allow extra time for your journey this afternoon & plan ahead.”
The crash, which resulted in one person being taken to hospital, has caused tailbacks to Junction 4 for Hatfield’s Tesco.
