THOUSANDS of pounds have been stolen in a daylight robbery at a bank.

It is believed a significant amount of cash was taken as guards in a Securicor van made a delivery at Barclays in Cole Green Lane, WGC.

The robbery occurred just after noon today.

The robber was described by eyewitnesses to the WHT as black, over 6ft and wearing black clothing.

Paul Channing, who works at Martin’s on Woodhall Parade, said: “I saw someone running out of Barclays.

“First we heard the door smash, then I looked out and he was running past and shouting.”

He added his work college Yvonne Nash tried to trip the robber up as he ran past.

A Barclays spokesman said the branch would remain shut while police carried out their investigations.
