A 12-year-old boy is 'gutted' after his customised BMX bike was stolen in Hatfield.

The boy had returned from school to his home in Millwards at 3.30pm yesterday and left his bike unsecured by the back gate.

When he returned to the back gate at 7.45am today the bike had gone.

The black BMX bike, which has a dark grey seat, was custom made by the boy’s two older brothers as a present for his 11th birthday.

The boy’s mum said: “It’s a custom built BMX that his brothers built for him and at some point someone has taken his bike and we haven’t noticed until this morning.

“He’s only 12 years old and he’s absolutely gutted. He’s really upset about it.

“This is everything to him. He uses it every day to go to school and at weekends he’s down the skate park. It’s a big part of his life. All the boys are into BMX.”

“It took his brothers several weeks to make and cost them a lot of money.”

If you have any information that could help find the bike, call police on 101, quoting crime reference number B2/16/4693.
