WGC'S very own Super Tuesday almost ended in glory for the WHT.

Today's third annual pancake race saw the paper's boys team pipped at the post for the coveted silver frying pan prize.

Sainsbury's took the honours after a frenetic final on the Howardsgate course.

It was the second successive year the WHT has finished runners-up - and news editor Chris Lennon was understandably gutted.

"We did brilliantly to get to the final and were actually leading going into the last leg, until our cub reporter, Simon Wesson, dropped his pancake."

"It proved to be a costly mistake."

The WHT's two teams - boys and girls - had been paired together in the earlier heats, with the former running out triumphant.

A total of 10 teams dodged the showers to line up for the Shrove Tuesday event.
