HOBBIT fans got a glimpse of the next instalment of Peter Jackson’s epic prequel trilogy this week.
On the same day in which breathtaking artwork was released, the official trailer was posted on YouTube.
It showed Bilbo Baggins, the eponymous hobbit, who is played by Brookmans Park’s very own Martin Freeman fending off the fearsome dragon Smaug.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug sees Bilbo, wizard Gandalf and a retinue of dwarves attempt to seize back their treasure, upon which the feared fire-drake, voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, slumbers.
The outstanding beauty of New Zealand is again showcased by director and proud Kiwi Peter Jackson, in his fifth visit to Middle Earth.
Cate Blanchett, Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom also return as Galdriel, Frodo Baggins and Legolas respectively.
And former Dr Who actor Sylvester McCoy is also featured, with the former Timelord again playing oddball wizard Radagast the Brown.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is due to open in cinemas across the UK on December 13.
It will be followed by the third instalment of the franchise in December 2014.
