A VILLAGE store that was re-opened after being forced to close for nine months is celebrating its first birthday tomorrow (Saturday).
Tewin Stores, on Hertford Road, was brought back to life by villagers and The Tewin Stores Association Ltd which pumped 12,000 into the project, after it had been threatened with permanent closure when it was closed in May 2007.
Tomorrow they are celebrating their first birthday in style.
They are having a cake competition, offering buy-one-get-one-free treats, giving customers free tea and coffee, as well as keeping the store open an additional three hours, running from 8.30am until 3pm.
To enter the cake competition, simply bring your cake along to the store before 11am and judging will take place at 12.30pm.
The winner will be chosen based on appearance and originality - so be creative! Cakes will then be sold in aid of the new tea room opening later this year.
