Tax debts put Brocket Hall in administration

The future of the 18th century mansion Brocket Hall has been thrown in doubt as debts have overwhelmed the company running it.
Brocket Hall International Ltd, which runs a hotel, conference centre, two golf courses, and the Auberge Du Lac restaurant under a long term lease, went into administration yesterday.
Joint administrator Peter Holder of AlixPartners said the business will continue to trade while he tries to sell it, and he is confident of plenty of interest in the “unique and historic estate”.
His firm will honour all bookings and deposits, and he says golf club membership is unaffected.
The winding up petition was issued by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, but the trust chaired by Lord Brocket that owns the freehold claims it is owed more than £280,000.
