WALK off a few festive pounds at a series of special walks.

The Countryside Management Service (CMS) runs health walk schemes in six areas, including Hertsmere.

A new programme of walks starts this month, including routes of varying lengths, and led by fully-trained volunteers.

There's no need to book, you can just turn up and join in for free.

County councillor Stuart Pile, executive member for highways, transport and rural affairs, said: "Walking has been described as the nearest thing to perfect exercise.

"Why not make it a new year's resolution to join a local health walk?"

The CMS, which is partly-funded by the county council along with district and borough councils, works throughout Herts to enable communities to enjoy, care for and enhance their local environment.

To find a walk near you, log on to www.hertsdirect.org/healthwalks or call 01438 737321 or 01923 471321.
