CHAOS descended on the opening of Heathrow's Terminal 5 - leaving a passenger from WGC stranded along with thousands of others.

Chris Kiernan was left infuriated by the "nightmare" he encountered yesterday (Thursday) after landing on a flight from Los Angeles.

He told the WHT he expected more from the £4.3bn state-of-the-art terminal.

T5 suffered a disastrous first day, with 68 flights cancelled, numerous bags lost and escalators left paralysed.

The 29-year-old soldier said: "It was the last thing I wanted after a long 11-hour flight.

"I was quite looking forward to being one of the first people to use the new terminal, but frankly it was a nightmare.

"To be honest I'm pretty distraught about the whole situation and the thing is we were one of the lucky ones - we only waited two hours for our luggage, the people on the flight before us waited eight-and-a-half hours."

Chris, of Herns Lane, Panshanger, added: "It wasn't just waiting for the bags either, it started off badly.

"When we landed the pilot informed us that our parking space had already been taken up so we had to wait 25 minutes for that.

"Also no coaches were allowed through either, and we had to wait ages for that as well.

"Apparently the reason for all the delay was because staff couldn't get through security."
