Suspected robbery at Welwyn Garden City mobile phone store

A SUSPECTED robbery took place in Welwyn Garden City this morning (Wednesday).
Raiders are believed to have stolen money from a safe and mobile phones in a heist at the Orange Shop, in the Howard Centre.
Police are still on the scene and the shop is cordoned off with police incident tape.
A forensics officers’ van and an ambulance were seen outside the Howard Centre.
Nalin Patel, who works in the Sony Centre next door, told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “The safe was open and maybe they’ve [the robbers] taken some money and phones.”
He added: “There has been a major incident next door.”
Staff at other shops, including the Carphone Warehouse opposite, were told to “be vigilant”.
A spokesman for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: “We can confirm that we received a report at 9.50am this morning of an incident at the Orange mobile phone store in the Howard Centre.
“We are currently attending the scene and making initial investigations.”
He added: ““We are investigating the suspected theft of a number of electronic items from the Orange shop this morning. “We are currently interviewing witnesses in order to establish the exact circumstances around the incident.”
Ambulance spokesman Gary Sanderson said: “We were alerted to a shop in the Howard Centre at 9.53am and a woman has been taken to the QE2 Hospital with a minor injury.”
