A woman was injured after a 20ft Subway sign fell on her in Hatfield town centre.

Ambulance services were called to Subway in The Common at 4.43pm yesterday.

The 20ft sign had fallen on a female customer, believed to be in her 20s, causing her a head injury.

A rapid response vehicle and an ambulance crew arrived and treated her at the scene.

She was taken to Lister Hospital in Stevenage for further treatment. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police were called at 5.25pm but did not attend.

A Subway spokesperson said; “We can confirm an incident took place yesterday at a SUBWAY® store in Hatfield. We are currently investigating this as a matter of urgency.”
