FIRE crews who had to save eight trapped people in a lift have branded them "stupid".

Two engines, one from Hatfield and the other from WGC, were called to Goldings House in Hatfield at 8pm yesterday to rescue those who were stuck.

The call was originally put in to save a pregnant woman who was trapped which turned out to be false.

A fire spokeswoman said: "The call was to save a pregnant woman stuck on the 12th floor but when we got there eight people were stuck on the ground floor.

"All we had to do was bring the lift up a bit to let them out.

"They were stuck in there for about 40 minutes and the reason was because they overloaded it, which is down to their own stupidity.
