Police closed the High Street in Codicote


Traffic chaos is building up around Codicote village following a suspected stabbing.

A man believed to be in his 20s has been airlifted to hospital.

A villager who contacted the Welwyn Hatfield Times said: “It doesn’t appear to be anyone from the village.

“We think two cars were chasing each other and it ended up in some sort of fracas.

“We understand one person has been seriously hurt.

“The police have closed off part of the High Street and not letting cars through.

“There’s chaos.

“Officers are even stopping pedestrians.”

Earlier a police spokeswoman told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “Officers were called shortly before 3pm today following an incident in Codicote High Street.

“A man sustained serious injuries and has been airlifted to hospital.

“The High Street is currently closed at the junction with Heath Lane and officers are working to establish exactly what happened.

“One person has been detained by police.”
