Welwyn Hatfield residents will get to see the design for the long-awaited Splashlands project in a matter of weeks.

It is hoped the £2.2million splash park and play area in Stanborough Park will open next year, more than a decade after redevelopment plans for the former Splashlands site in Welwyn Garden City were first talked about.

Executive member for leisure, culture and communications, councillor Terry Mitchinson, told last night’s council meeting: “Since cabinet’s approval of the Splashlands project on December 4, officers have been busy turning initial concept into detailed design, with the aim to open the facility during WGC’s centenary year, 2020.

“Phase 1 of the project involves the refurbishment of the toilet block and the kiosk, the planning application of which was recently submitted.

“The rest of the Splashlands project is progressing well and the design will be shared with the public in engagement events at Campus West in early March.”
