The Bull pub in Watton-at-Stone staged a Boxing Day Watton Dip to raise funds for the WGC-based Isabel Hospice.

Customers at the pub arranged the local dip to echo the annual Whitby Dip which sees hundreds of brave fundraisers run like mad from Whitby's pier into the near-freezing North Sea.

The alternative Watton Dip relied on a huge paddling pool of 1,480 gallons of icy cold water in the pub's garden.

One brave participant even donned a revealing "Borat" swimsuit in the style of the popular TV character.

The event followed on from the pub's annual football match when a team of under-30s took on the over-30s. After a 0-0 draw, the younger team won on penalties.

Sponsorship money is still being collected but more than £1,000 is expected to have been raised by the day's events.

Landlady Yvonne Mack said: "It was an excellent day and we are pleased to be able to support Isabel Hospice in this way.

"I thought I may be able to get away with just dipping my toe in and then entering the water gently.

"However, flying leaps were the order of the day!"

Landlord Gary Mack added: "We are now looking to make this annual event.
