A SPEED monitoring operation found two motorists driving at more than 60mph in a residential 30mph zone.

And police have issued more than 150 warning letters to those clocked driving at more than 35mph along the built-up roads.

The operation took place during two-hour periods in the morning and evening rush hours in Valley Road, Applecroft Road and Parkway, WGC, from October 5 to 7.

Pcso Kate Blenkin said the 60mph motorists had only escaped punishment as it was a monitoring, not enforcement, operation.

She said: “These two drivers would have gone straight to court and most likely have been disqualified.”

A follow-up enforcement operation is planned for this week, where speedsters can expect a £60 fine and three penalty points.

“The 30mph limit is there for a reason,” Pcso Blenkin added.
