A SPATE of shed and garage raids in Welwyn Hatfield over the few weeks has seen bikes, lawn mowers, jet washers and various other items stolen.

Herts Police are asking people to take extra steps to secure their bikes and garden equipment following the outbreak of burglaries this summer.

The first incident happened between July 19 and 23 when the padlock on a Ravenfield, WGC, shed was broken and a lawn mower taken.

This was followed by four bikes being stolen from a garage in Lady Grove, WGC, between 21 and 29 July.

Between 11.30pm on 29 July and 4am on 30 July a jet cleaner, two power drills, an electric jig-saw and other items were stolen from a shed in The Shaws, WGC.

Most recently a bike and other cycling equipment were taken from a shed in Birchwood Avenue, Hatfield between 31 July and 2 August.

Detective Inspector Oliver Johnston said: “With the warmer weather we see more of these types of incidents where bikes, tools or gardening equipment are stolen. The message is simple, take the time to secure your property, and that includes sheds, garages and other outbuildings.

“You can also register your bike and other valuables, such as mobile phones, for free on www.immobilise.com, so if your property is recovered by police, they can return the item to you. It takes a few minutes.”
