Spate of garage thefts in Welwyn Garden City

OPPORTUNISTIC thieves stole bikes, toys and electronics from eight different garages in the space of a single week.

The spate of thefts all took place in WGC between Friday, September 2, and Friday, September 9.

Garage blocks in Great Ganett, Thistle Grove, Broomhills and Sheepcote were among those to have been targeted, with bikes, power tools, audio visual equipment and children’s toys all stolen.

In all cases, the goods had been taken from garages that were used for storage instead of cars.

Detective Inspector Robin Winder, from the Welwyn Hatfield local crime unit, said: “These offences are happening where people use garages to store items, rather than park their cars overnight, and opportunistic thieves are then targeting garage blocks.

“I would like to advise people to not leave anything valuable in their garages, particularly if the garage is in a secluded area where it is not overlooked by other houses.”

If you have any information on the thefts, call inspector Wilder on the police non-emergency line 101.
