IT'S not often you head down to your local and come home with more money than you went in with.

But one punter did just that, after completing an online guest survey and winning £1,000 for his troubles!

James Tann, a regular at the Goffs Oak pub on Newgatestreet Road was presented with his money earlier this month.

The survey, run by the pub's owners, Ember Inns, encourages guests to give feedback after their visit.

James, 37, said service at the pub was great and he had already decided what to do with the prize money.

He said: "The pub has become a home away from home when we want to enjoy a drink or meal out and is great for meeting new people.

"It is obvious the company puts a lot of effort into service and staff training, as they are all very knowledgeable, friendly and never short of a smile."

James and his wife Nicola have a baby daughter Jessica. James added: "Winning the prize draw has proved a fantastic surprise as it means we can now enjoy our first family holiday together, a treat we previously didn't think we could afford this year."

Goffs Oak manager Damon Grey said: "On behalf of my team I would like to pass my congratulations on to James and I am thrilled to hear that the money will be put to such good use.

"Receiving regular feedback from our guests helps us to learn what they want from their local pub and I am very proud of the team's commitment to maintaining high levels of service.
