Photographs from yesteryear’s weather

IF your dreams of a white Christmas were dashed then get yourself down to an exhibition of snow photographs.

The pictures, from the past 120 years, are now on display at Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies at County Hall in Hertford.

Among the dozens of exhibits is one of the Coronation fountain on Parkway, WGC, frozen solid.

County councillor Keith Emsall, executive member for education and culture, said: "We know that visitors to Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies enjoy these themed exhibitions, which are a good way of showing the sheer range and variety of images that are retained in the archive at County Hall.

"The many thousands of images on file provide a fascinating glimpse into Hertfordshire's past - and in this case gives an idea of the sort of weather that we could have expected a century ago."

The exhibition, which is in the foyer in the register office block, runs until the end of January.
