Hertsmere Council and the county council are urging smokers to quit the habit as part of Stoptober.

Councillor Brenda Batten, Hertsmere’s portfolio holder for health, said: “Of course quitting can be tough, but Stoptober has proved to be a great way for smokers to take their first steps towards a healthier, happier life.

“And it doesn’t take long to feel the benefits. After just 28 days of not lighting up, smokers say they have a better sense of smell and taste, have more energy, and they save money because they are not paying for cigarettes.”
