‘Smashed bottle’ used in daylight scuffle in Hatfield

TWO teenagers have been arrested after a scuffle which allegedly saw a glass bottle smashed and used as a weapon in Hatfield.
It happened in broad daylight at around 2.15pm yesterday (Tuesday) in Market Place.
Today (Wednesday), victim Adam Nicholson, 20, told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “There were a lot of members of the public trying to tell them to leave it.
“But they weren’t having any of it.
“People looked terrified, there were little kids there.”
After a row broke out between two youths and a friend of Mr Nicholson, a glass bottle was smashed and Mr Nicholson was chased.
He said: “From behind, two boys started running and picked up a bottle, and tried to hit me.
“He broke it and tried to slice my face and stab me with it.
“It was in the broad daylight, they didn’t care.”
Mr Nicholson said he was “lucky” that the bottle did not go through his jacket.
A statement from police said: “Police are investigating an alleged affray in Hatfield between 2.15pm and 2.25pm yesterday.
“It is believed that two males became involved in an altercation with two other males in Market Place.
“One of the males has allegedly smashed a glass bottle on the ground before chasing one of the other men towards Goldings House.
“The incident ended without injury to any party.”

A 16-year-old male and a 17-year-old male from Hatfield were arrested on suspicion of affray and have been released on bail while investigations continue.
