A super slimmer has been named Welwyn Garden City’s ‘Woman of the Year’ 2018 after losing an incredible five stone in under a year.

Jodie Henderson, 23, represented WGC at the regional finals of the Slimming World competition, held in Cambridge on Sunday, September 9.

Slimming World’s ‘Woman of the Year’ competition recognises the achievements of thousands of women up and down the country who have made long-term healthy lifestyle changes.

In just 10 months, Jodie went from a dress size 16-18 to an 8, and says that when she first began slimming she couldn’t have dreamed of doing so well.

She commented that her health and energy levels are much improved.

She joined Slimming World in October 2017 after becoming increasingly unhappy with her size.

Jodie lost four pounds in her first week and was blown away that the changes she’d made had such a big impact so quickly.

As the weight started to come off, her fitness improved, and Jodie now loves sports.

To reach the regional finals, Jodie was nominated by the 50-strong group as one of the members who most inspired the others.

“My family and friends are all amazed by how much I can eat and still lose weight,” she said.

“I know a lot of people worry about joining a slimming club because they don’t know what to expect. Right from the first moment I walked into my Slimming World group I felt comfortable though, and the support I’ve received has been amazing. I just love it!”

Emma Reeves, who runs the group, told the WHT: “She has done fantastically well.

“Jodie is somebody who comes every single week, and brings really good energy to the group.

“She’s really supportive of everybody there.”

As Jodie is just 23, Emma commented on how easy it would have been for her to not bother looking after her health.

“She still goes out and enjoys herself, in a way where she can control how she loses weight and still enjoy life to the maximum,” said Emma.

Emma’s Slimming World group is held every Saturday at 8.30am at the United Reformed Church (opposite Sainsbury’s), Church Road.
