HOME care for people across Potters Bar will be provided by one private company under a new contract that has been signed with Hertfordshire County Council.

The contract, which comes into force on April 1, was awarded to Westminster, which previously shared the work with Crossroads.

The care is provided to hundreds of elderly and vulnerable across the town.

A spokesman for the council said it was satisfied with the quality of care provided by previous contractors, but had a statutory responsibility to carry out the re-tendering process.

Sarah Pickup, director of adult care services, said: "We want people to receive a home care service that's right for them and helps them to be as independent as possible.

"We have chosen providers which will ensure that there are sufficient good quality home care services in all parts of the county."

People currently receiving a home care service arranged by the county council's adult care services will not have to pay any more as a result of the change.

They may also be able to keep the same carer as they will have the opportunity to move to the new contractor.
