The varied history in and around Times Territory was highlighted at the Excursions 2008 group travel show at Alexandra Palace this month.

Knebworth House joined forces with Enjoy! Hertfordshire and its partners, including St Albans Tourism and Paradise Wildlife Park, to bring a flavour of the county to the exhibition.

The stately home was represented by newly-appointed groups co-ordinator Charlotte Farrer, dressed in Tudor costume to illustrate some of Knebworth's varied and interesting history.

Charlotte said: "The stand attracted many visitors and helped us get our message across about what Knebworth can offer group visitors - including the house, park, gardens adventure playground and of course our dinosaur trail."

Also on the stand was Enjoy! Hertfordshire's head of tourism, Annie Hawkins, in costume as the county's famous 17th-century 'Wicked Lady', Catherine Ferrers.

Catherine was a member of a noble but impoverished family and reputedly disguised herself as a man and took up a career as a highway robber.

She was active in the Nomansland area near Wheathampstead, which is said still to be haunted by her ghost.

Excursions 2008 attracted more than 1,000 event organisers and coach operators from around the UK and over 200 exhibitors.

Martha Lytton-Cobbold of Knebworth House said: "This was an excellent joint initiative between ourselves and Hertfordshire Tourism and we are looking forward to doing much more together to promote our county during 2008.
